Tongue of shoe too long and hard.
I love the sole and fit of these shoes, and have not turned from Altra shoes since I purchased my first pair several years ago. BUT, with these Altra-Women’s Torin 5 shoes, when I wear them with low cut socks, the shoe’s tongue (a very hard material) cuts into my ankles. I have to bend the tongue of this shoe back and tie it down under the laces. It is just too painful and injurious to my ankle if otherwise. After spending this much money on a new pair of shoes, I should not have to wear high socks so that the tongue of shoes does not cut into my ankle.TW08/14/2021Tessie W.Hong Kong
Altra - Women's Torin 5 nice update
The Torin 5 is a nice update if the Altras I bought 4 years ago (not sure which model, at the time there were less). I only use Altras after I almost had to stop running because of debilitating plantar fasciitis, but I haven't had any flare ups at all after switching to the Zero Drop Altras. In the Torin, the fit still accomodates the wider toe box but is slightly more fitted in the arch and heel, which makes it feel like more stable on the trail. The tongue of the shoe is a little stiff and it juts back up into the front of my ankle, and I worried that it might irritate me despite the otherwise good fit. But actually I don't notice it after a few weeks of use. I bought the green and while I liked it ok initially I realized later as a bonus that the patterns match topographical maps. Subtle, but it looks cool. I will be buying a second pair of these.
