Hong Kong has some of the highest density urban environments in the world, which has earned the city a nickname - “the concrete jungle”. And yet surrounding this concrete jungle is a real forest. About 40% of the city’s land area is country parks and nature reserves.
The proximity and the lack of boundaries between these two jungles have given rise to some unique problems. In recent years, more and more concrete has been used in country parks and green boundary zones, for access and for maintenance purposes. Whilst concrete looks like a convenient solution, it has serious negative long-term impact on our environment.
The movie seeks to tell the story through Stone Tsang (Founder of the Concern Group on Concretisation of Natural Trails). From an amateur trail running athlete, Stone has come to learn about trail management problems and found his mission in trail conservation. The movie also includes dialogues with trail lovers from different walks of life, showing us the value of natural trails, the challenges and opportunities of trail conservation and the reason why we need to protect our natural trails.
The movie has been made possible through the contribution by a team of pro bono volunteers in videography and sound engineering as well as dedicated hikers.
