GEAR REVIEW: Altra TIMP 2.0
Posted on September 10 2020
We spoke to the current Asia Trail Master champion and Gone Running co-founder, John Ellis, for his views on the Altra TIMP 2.0 as we figured he might know a thing or two about running shoes. Overall, it’s a great shoe for anyone looking for a comfortable all-rounder for road and trail that handles well in the dry. I give it 8.5/10
Read on for his thoughts after 600km in these bad boys.
The toebox is roomy and super comfy – like all Altras – though slightly narrower than the 1.5s. There is enough cushioning for a big slog or technical trails, while still being fairly agile given no rock plate. There’s a nice ground-feel for the faster stuff.
It’s rugged enough to handle most terrain and also feels good on roads. The styling and look is pretty smart as well. On the negative side, the MaxTrac grip works great in the dry but is not great on wet rocks, but it's probably less important as a crossover shoe.
