If you are running a long race, in tough conditions, often in isolated locations, you rely a lot on your kit. Your shoes, your, vest, your socks, your T shirt all play an important part in delivering a pain free experience. However shorts, probably come top of the list for potential sources of utter agony and race destroying pain if things go wrong.

They carry essential gear, they must not cause chaffing, not too tight, not too loose. Be secure for your valuables in every sense.

Wise have chosen the best woven fabric available with the aim of making the lightest, stretchiest product on the on the market. A pair of medium sized men's ULTRA SHERPA SHORT comes in at 104.1g, which is 18% lighter from a comparable T8 combination of short and underwear or 10% lighter than the lightest NNormal comparable shorts.

A fabric made from Polyamide/Elastane thread might be expensive but the ability to wick moisture and be so light is a platform for comfort and performance. Every gram counts over an ULTRA distance. Similarly, while being light and stretchy, it also reduced bounce. The material is supplied by PAYEN and only used in Wise shorts

CONSTRUCTION

Now this is where the magic starts. So much thought has gone into every single detail of the construction of the shorts, based on extensive testing by some of the worlds greatest athlete. Killian Jornet reportadly prefers to use WISE Shorts instead of his own NNormal brand.

Three trademarked technologies are built into the design of these shorts.

MODIUS BELT

3D SHAPE. The gusset in the inner tight has a multi-panel construction for an increased 3D shape, seams are all thermally sealed and any folds kept away from the skin to reduce chaffing. the incredible lightness also increases airflow. The material is 4 way stretch looser when needed (54g/m2) and stiffer for structure when needed (78g/m2).

But shorts also have to carry other forms of essential, often mandatory gear.

THE FLASKLOCK POCKET AND MODIUS BELT

The shorts can carry 2 500ml soft flasks in belt around the top of the shorts which they refer to as the MODIUS BELT. The structure of the MODIUS BELT is a double layer, highly elastic fabric with a density of 107gm/2. Around the top of the MODIUS BELT is a patented silicon strip about 20mm wide. This increases the stiffness at that particular point and prevents any of the content from jumping out.
